A community project of the United Way of the Brown County Area, Inc.
Creating Opportunities for a Better Life
This year, about 475 backpacks filled with age appropriate school supplies were delivered to schools throughout Brown County. These backpacks are available to kids from families in need to help ensure that the kids are able to get off to a good start in school.
What's the United Way Backpack Project?
The United Way Backpack Project will provide school supplies to children that would have started without the supplies needed to get a good start in school. United Way has teamedup with local school districts, the Salvation Army and area businesses to bring this opportunity to the Brown County area.
How does it work?
Each summer schools in Brown County mail United Way Backpack Project info and applications to families who qualify for the FREE lunch program in grades K-8. School supplies and backpacks are then collected by participating businesses and organizations to fill the large number of requests. Parents and children are who qualify to receive a backpack and supplies are then invited to come and pack their backpacks with all the supplies they need to get off to a good start in school.

The following businesses and their employees, churches and service organizations participated in the collection and donation of school supplies and backpacks for the 2011-2012 school year. With their help the United Way was able to more than double the amount of supplies and backpacks distributed to kids in need. They all deserve a big thanks.
